Why Do We Care?

I opened up a browser and the headline jumped out at me "Snooki is in labor."  Really?  Big whoop.  Why do we care about these people?  Do they make the world better for others?  Are they out comforting and caring for hurting humans, saving dogs or protecting whales?  This kind of thing makes me crazy.  I think what makes me crazier is that even though I have the barest of ideas about who Snooki is, I still clicked on the darn link.  No wonder these people are in the news, idiots like me will look, if only to wonder why they looked in the first place.
